Kitchen Circuit Upgrade in St Just
The job
A family in St Just were having a kitchen refitted and discovered the existing wiring couldn't support the new appliances - a single ring main for the whole ground floor, no dedicated circuits for the cooker or dishwasher, and a consumer unit with no spare ways.
What I did
I installed a new dedicated 6mm cooker circuit, a dedicated circuit for the dishwasher, and a 20A circuit for the washing machine in the utility. I upgraded the consumer unit to a modern 18-way unit with RCBOs on all new circuits, and put all new kitchen sockets on a separate ring from the rest of the ground floor.
On the day
The kitchen wall backs onto a solid granite gable end - surface trunking was used for the cable drop rather than chasing. Agreed with the homeowner and finished to a clean standard that works with the new kitchen units.
