Cornovii Electrical

Lighting & Socket Installations Penzance & Penwith

Overview

Most electrical work in a home or holiday let comes down to adding capacity or improving what's there - an extra socket, a new lighting circuit, garden or security lights, or switching to LED. As a sole trader I handle these jobs from first visit to final test. No subcontracting, no scheduling around other crew. I also install Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) units, which are increasingly common in Penwith properties where damp and condensation are a persistent problem.

What's involved

Site visit and quote

For anything beyond a like-for-like socket or light replacement, I'll visit to assess cable routes, existing circuits, and any constraints before quoting. Granite construction often means surface trunking rather than chasing - I'll be straight with you about what's realistic.

Installation

Work is carried out to BS 7671. New circuits are tested on completion. For notifiable work (new circuits, outdoor installations), I provide certification as a NAPIT-registered electrician.

PIV installation

Positive Input Ventilation units are fitted in the loft space and gently pressurize the property with filtered air - the most effective long-term solution for condensation damp in older Cornish properties. Installation typically takes half a day.

Typical Costs

I'll give you a fixed quote for any job that's straightforward to scope. Day-rate work (hourly) suits jobs where the scope isn't known until I start - I'll always agree this with you upfront.

What affects the price

  • Number of sockets or light fittings being installed
  • Whether a new circuit is required or work can use an existing one
  • Cable routing - surface trunking vs chased or concealed wiring
  • Access difficulty (high ceilings, granite walls, confined loft spaces)

Example costs

First hour
£75
Each hour after that
£45/hr

Common Questions

Do you offer free quotes?
Yes, quotes are free with no obligation. Call or WhatsApp and we can discuss the job - for anything straightforward I can usually give a price over the phone, and for larger jobs I'll arrange a site visit.
What area do you cover?
I cover Penzance, St Ives, Hayle, Marazion, Newlyn, St Just, Camborne, and the wider Penwith peninsula. If you're unsure whether you're in range, just call and ask - I'm happy to travel for the right job.
Are you NAPIT registered?
Yes, I'm NAPIT registered - member number 66376. You can verify this on the NAPIT website by searching for Cornovii Electrical. NAPIT registration means I'm assessed annually against industry standards and can self-certify notifiable electrical work, including consumer unit upgrades and new circuits.
Are you VAT registered?
Not currently, which means there's no VAT to add on top of my prices. This may change in the future, but any change would be communicated clearly before work is quoted or carried out.
